We were greatly inspired by the fundamental design of the Rumah Melaka which accentuates the entrance into the home; symbolic of traditional Malay practices in which one must always be welcoming towards guests. The staircase is presented as an element of grandeur which not only is exceptionally wider at its base, it is also embellished with colourful tiles that are arranged in geometric patterns. The implementation of this idea into our own proposal, creates an elegant yet iconic entrance point for the project which draws people into the building. In addition to that, we utilised different types of screens to divide and organise spaces in order to create more privacy in certain areas such as the prayer rooms and toilets.
