Modern Peranakan

When thinking about the conception of a new design for Juru layby, what we wanted to emphasise was to transform the location into a focal point for the suburban community rather than exclusively catering for drivers along the expressway. The concept of having colourful screens and geometric ventilation blocks that act features of the façade is based on our design approach of having a modern peranakan impression. We developed a landscape design that directs visitors from the road towards the surau yet is able to provide sufficient privacy in addition to creating a cool area which is shaded from direct sunlight. A herb garden is located in the surau courtyard to heighten the serene atmosphere cultivated by the aromatic properties of the selected flora.
